Newbury Celebrates 2017 Graduation at Senior Toast

May 16, 2017 – On Friday May 12, Newbury seniors celebrated their upcoming graduation at the Senior Toast event. Before the Toast, seniors, families, friends, Newbury faculty and staff gathered in the Student Center Auditorium for the Academic Awards Ceremony. Students were recognized for their outstanding academic achievement during their four years at Newbury.

The Toast began with Alumni Relations Manager, Tracy Ricciardi, welcoming everyone. She encouraged the soon-to-be alumni to remain connected to Newbury after graduation and congratulated the Class of 2017 on their fundraising efforts for their Senior Class Gift. They surpassed their goal of $2,017 and raised a total of $2,548.17.

Following remarks and congratulations from Vice President for Advancement, Clare McCully, and Newbury President, Dr. Joseph L. Chillo, Executive Class Senator, Shelby Gravel, spoke to her peers. “No matter what walk of life you have led or what walk of life you leave with today never let anyone tell you you can't do what you want to accomplish,” she said, “Never let anyone tell you you're not good enough or not going anywhere.” Gravel also announced that the Class of 2017 will donate $218 to the Class of 2018, so they can have a head start on fundraising for next year’s Senior Class Gift.

The Toast concluded with Gravel and President Chillo unveiling the 2017 Senior Class Gift: the Newbury Seal to be incorporated into the upcoming Alumni Patio. Seniors and guests were then invited into the Mitton House for appetizers and refreshments.
