Dr. Rocco Porreca to Join Newbury as Assistant Professor in Sport Management

Apr. 20, 2017 – Congratulations to Dr. Rocco Porreca, who will be joining Newbury College’s Roger. A. Saunders School of Business and Hospitality Management as an Assistant Professor in Sport Management in the 2017-2018 academic year. Porreca comes to Newbury from the University of Miami where he was a lecturer of Kinesiology and Sport Sciences after previously working as an Adjunct Professor at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fl.

“I am very excited to join Newbury College and the Sport Management program! I feel as though the smaller class sizes at Newbury create inclusivity, which will allow for greater intellectual stimulation and creativity,” says Porecca. “Additionally, Newbury is extremely collaborative, and all of the faculty, staff, and students are working together to achieve their goals. The Sport Management program at Newbury is on the rise and I am eager and grateful to be a part of its growth.”

Newbury is eager to welcome Porecca and looks forward to the contributions he will make to the College. Dr. Laurie Gordy, Dean of Faculty, says, “I am excited to have Dr. Rocco Porreca join Newbury this fall as he has innovative ideas for integrating industry relevant experiences into course assignments. His teaching and research will be a great asset to Dr. Michelle Brimecombe and the students as Newbury seeks to expand the Sport Management program.”

Porecca has a Doctor of Education in Sport Management from the United States Sports Academy and both a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from State University of New York at Cortland.

Looking forward to his time at Newbury, Porecca says, “Helping students achieve their goals within the sport industry is very important to me. Working with Dr. Brimecombe, I hope to continue building relationships with sport industry organizations to better aid students as they seek to obtain internships and begin their careers. I will work to ensure all students are fully prepared to make the transition from college graduate to sport industry professional.”
