Academic Program Mission Statement:
The evolution of technology, computer science, criminal justice and terrorism studies has given way to an emerging and fascinating field – Cybersecurity. This interdisciplinary, strategically-focused degree guides students along a path of risk assessment, incident responsiveness, vulnerability reductions, homeland and terroristic threat reduction and the creation and maintenance of a secure and stable information and communications infrastructure, as well as an understanding of policy, diplomacy and counterintelligence and counterterrorism threat analysis. Students who select this path are interested in studying and analyzing network security, cyber vandalism (hacking), systems security, intel analytics and more. The B.S. in Cybersecurity provides students with a strong foundation for careers in the corporate ICT security, local and federal government, law enforcement and non-profit sectors. This is a future-focused career choice with possibilities in economic crime, international crime and global communications
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the rationales associated with various cyber-attacks and computer forensic processes. This includes the importance of search warrants and chain of custody in investigations and an assessment of federal and state laws that affect how governments and organizations deal with information security.
- Plan and protect an organization's critical information and assets by using cyber security best practices and risk management through the enterprise.
- Formulate, update and effectively communicate short- and long-term organizational cybersecurity strategies, plans for security architecture (consisting of tools and techniques to detect and prevent network penetration), designs of effective cybersecurity countermeasures and policies using analyzed digital evidence to detect intruder activity on systems.
- Demonstrate the integration of continuous monitoring and real-time security solutions with business and network services solutions.
- Demonstrate the ability to create solutions to cybersecurity problems in industry, government or academia appropriate to their levels of professional experience.
- Analyze the impact of cybersecurity on society, and exhibit ethical decision-making based on knowledge of the ethical, social and professional responsibilities of their work.
