At The Center for Counseling and Health Education, we believe that personal and career concerns
are a normal part of each student's growth process. The staff of the center is available to help you
define goals, develop strategies for change, and realize a greater understanding of self and others.
We are here to listen and offer support as you work toward resolving personal concerns and seek out
ways to achieve a greater sense of wellness.
Counselors are sensitive to issues of ethnicity, religion, sexual preference, gender, physical
capacities, and learning disabilities.
Confidentiality
All counseling sessions and contact with the Center are strictly confidential. Under ordinary
circumstances, no information about you will be revealed to any person or agency without your
written consent. However, if a student is judged to be a danger to self and/or others, we reserve
the right to inform parents, next-of-kin or appropriate college personnel.
Counseling sessions do not become part of a student's record. Any counseling information used in
statistics or research will guarantee the anonymity of the student.
Services offered
Counseling services are free to all Newbury students.
Individual Counseling is an opportunity for students to meet one-on-one
with a counselor to discuss any personal concerns. Students
work with their counselor to determine the appropriate number
of sessions. In certain cases, an outside referral will
be made.
Resources and Referrals are available for students
seeking off-campus health care or mental health care services.
For health care concerns that do not warrant a trip to
the emergency room, students are advised to go to Brookline
Medical Associates at 358 Harvard Avenue in the Coolidge
Corner area. They accept Chickering Health Plan - the College's
insurance. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are recommended.
Brookline Medical Associates can be reached at (617) 739-1111.
Call for directions.
Educational Programs are offered throughout the
year and provide an opportunity for students to gain information
on a variety of subjects related to health and wellness.
The Health and Wellness Library is a collection of books on mental health,
wellness and personal growth. These materials are available
for any member of the Newbury community to borrow for a
limited amount of time.
