When, where, and at what time is Commencement?
Commencement is Sunday, May 11, 2008 and the procession
will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony takes place
on the land behind East and Edwards Hall.
Can I just show-up on May 11th and participate in Commencement?
No. All students must Petition to Graduate
through the Registrar's Office (this should be done as soon
as possible, if not already complete) and participate in
Senior Check-Out in AC001 (April 22& 23) to be cleared
by the Registrar, Student Accounts and Financial Aid before
being issued a Cap & Gown.
Is a cap & gown required and how do I get one?
Yes, every participating student must wear a cap & gown
and you need to order one with University Cap & Gown
(via the Office of Student Affairs, SC108).
When do I pick up my cap & gown?
Students can pick up their cap and gown at Senior Check
out on April 22nd and 23rd from 10 - 3 p.m. in AC001. Students
will need to be cleared by the Registrar, Financial Aid,
Student Accounts and the Library before receiving their
regalia. All departments will be available during check
out to "clear" students.
What time do students need to be on campus for the ceremony?
Graduates should plan to be on campus by 9:30 a.m.
Am I limited to a certain number of guests?
No, you may bring as many guests as you like but on and
off campus parking is required and it is limited. Please
ask your guests to travel in as few vehicles as possible.
Will Commencement be cancelled if it rains and is the
venue weather protected?
Commencement will be held on schedule regardless of the
weather conditions. While the graduates' seating area is
under the tent, the majority of guest seating is not weather
protected.
Will I receive more detailed information from the College
about Commencement?
Yes, students anticipated to be participating will receive
a letter from the Dean of Student Affairs' office the first
week in April with a Commencement Brochure that should answer
all of your questions. A second letter will go to the "family
of" all graduates in mid April with similar information.
Can I sit where I want at the ceremony?
Commencement seating is assigned and your name will be read
in that order (it is important to stay in the spot you are assigned),
alphabetically with members from your School and by degree.
Will I receive my actual diploma during the ceremony?
Yes, the President will hand you your diploma in a diploma
cover when you cross the stage.
Parking information for Commencement will be announced
in the next month. This information is very crucial. Please
continue to check your e-mail for notices regarding
this information.
