The Community Service Initiative: Learning and Growing
through Service
The Community Service Initiative provides opportunities
for Newbury College students to participate in community
service projects. The Initiative is a collaborative effort
among the Office of Campus Activities and a variety of other
Newbury departments, groups, and individuals.
The Initiative serves as a liaison between Newbury students
and the community of local agencies in need of assistance.
The Initiative promotes the educational, as well as personal
benefits of service. We believe that when we give of ourselves
we also receive much in return. Friendships, personal growth,
career building, and improved self-esteem are just a few
of the benefits. Together, Newbury students, faculty, staff,
and various student groups can achieve these benefits by
joining the Community Service Initiative. The more people
involved, the more lives we touch.
The Initiative facilitates:
Individual Volunteering: The Initiative holds a listing
of local organizations in need of your assistance and will
meet with you one on one to find a match.
Volunteering as a Group or Club: The Initiative will work
with your group, class, team etc. to find a one-time or
ongoing project tailored to your interests and schedule.
The Community Service Club: The Club meets on a regular
basis to plan service events of interest to the members
and in response to community needs. All students are welcome
to join the club at any time.
After Hours U: Participants meet with local middle school
students four times a semester. They provide friendship
to youth in need of mentors. This experience is one that
they, and you, will never forget.
Habitat for Humanity: Students interested in participating
meet regularly to plan service projects. The projects include
fundraising and home building. The work can be local, national,
or even international.
