Newbury College rewards academic initiative and hard work with merit scholarships. The Admission & Scholarship Committee takes into account a student’s academic performance and demonstrated excellence. Scholarships are renewed automatically all four years, provided students maintain the required cumulative grade point average. Students are notified of their merit-based scholarship at the time of admission to the College.
Merit scholarship decisions remain in effect for the period of one academic year and may not be deferred or transfered to another enrollment period. Merit scholarships are awarded to full-time students. If a student reduces their course load to part-time, the scholarship may be reduced or withdrawn.
The Admission & Scholarship Committee is responsible for the final determination of an applicant's weighted grade point average for scholarship eligibility at the time of admission.
Presidential Scholarship ($18,000 per year) The College is no longer accepting deposits from Presidential Scholars accepted to the Class of 2016. This program is full for the fall 2012 semester.
The Presidential Scholarship is awarded to a limited number of students who possess outstanding academic records, have shown leadership in school and extracurricular activities. Presidential Scholars are expected to serve as leaders in the Newbury College community, maintain a commitment to community service, and participate in the college's Honors Program. A minimum weighted grade point average of 3.5 is required.
Distinguished Scholarship ($14,000 per year)
The Distinguished Scholarship recognizes those students who have succeeded academically and who can contribute to the rich and vibrant life of the Newbury College community. A minimum weighted grade point average of 3.0 is required.
Nighthawk Award ($8,000 per year)
The Nighthawk Award recognizes the potential for academic excellence and intellectual growth. A minimum weighted grade point average of 2.25 is required.
Transfer Scholar Award ($8,000 per year)
The Transfer Scholar Award recognizes transfer students who have earned a minimum grade point average of 2.75 and 24 transferrable credit hours.
