Search Help & Options
The Search Help & Options screen provides some tips on various search strategies for finding items in the Minuteman catalog. Each option has its particular advantages and disadvantages.
Advanced Keyword search provides you with the most flexibility by letting you limit your searches by library location, language, date, and material type (book, large print, DVD, and other formats).
Author/Title search allows you to combine the author’s last name with as much of the title as you know.
ISBN/ISSN search allows you to search by the book, serial, music, and publisher standard number.
To view your previous searches, click on (Search History). To protect your privacy when using a public or shared computer, click on (Clear Search History) or (End Search Session) when you finish searching for items.
Requesting a Title
While searching the Minuteman catalog, you may identify items
that are not owned by the Newbury College Library or are not
currently on the shelf. You may request an item, by clicking
on Request Item. If you have not already logged into
My Account, Minuteman will prompt you to do so:
Enter your Library card number and PIN—see My Account for more information.
Select the location where you will pick up the item.
Select the Request button. The first available copy is selected, and
you should see a hold confirmation message stating that
your request has been successfully placed. NOTE: If you
are requesting a multi-volume work, you will be prompted
to enter the specific volume you want.
Select Return to Searching or Logout.
You will be called or emailed when your requested item arrives. NOTE: Most
item requests take approximately three days to be delivered,
therefore, you need to plan accordingly. You cannot request
items that display the following status: LIB USE ONLY.
To check the status of any items that you have requested,
go to My Account and select Request(s) (Holds) Outstanding.
If the status displays IN TRANSIT, it means that the
item you requested is being sent to the location that you
specified. READY FOR PICKUP means that the item has
arrived and is waiting for you.
