Athletics - Women's Tennis

The Newbury College women's tennis team improved their overall record this year from 1-10 last year to 3-12 in the 2007 season, under the direction of first year head coach Adam Pritchard. The Nighthawks' victories came against Newbury rivals Pine Manor College, Regis College, and Mitchell College.

The Nighthawks were led by senior Laura Luna (Worcester, MA/Notre Dame Academy) who played in the team's top spot all season long and finished with a record of 2-11. Luna, always a strong contender, competed at a high level throughout the season and always gave her opponent a tough match, including taking many opponents to tie-breaker sets.

First year student Stephanie Valentine (Pleasant Valley, CT/St. Paul Catholic) enjoyed the best overall singles record on the team with a final record of 6-8. Also instrumental in the team's success this year were senior Lauren Daston (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull), junior Anna Collins (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton), and junior Stacie Beliveau (Northwood, NH/Coe-Brown Academy). Daston and Luna are the only two graduating seniors on the team.

The Nighthawks will compete in the new NCAA DIII New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) during the 2008-2009 season.
