The Newbury College women's cross country team had many
successes this year as they competed strongly under second
year head coach Adam Manewell. The Nighthawk women
finished the season especially strong, with 3 of the 6 women
making personal bests in the final two meets of the season.
Alaina Fillback (Portland, CT/Portland) had an overall
team best time of 22:40 at the Emmanuel Invitational. Fillback
also finished first on the team at the ECAC and NCAA championship
races with times of 27:47 and 26:27 respectively. Amy
Reilly (Warwick, RI/ Pilgrim) came up with the second
best overall time on the team at 24:20, which she ran at
the Emmanuel Invitational. Also coming up with impressive
performances for the Nighthawks was first year runner Kerri-Leigh
Palmer (Melrose, MA/Melrose) who ran her personal best
at the Gordon Invitational with a time of 26:39.
The Nighthawks also hosted the Association of Division
III Independents Championship race at Franklin Park for
the first time in the school's history. In the 2008 season,
Newbury College will be starting a new tradition as well
when they become members of the New England Collegiate
Conference (NECC), a new NCAA conference. The Nighthawks
have quite a bit to look forward to in the upcoming years.
