The Newbury College Men's cross country team had an impressive
2007 season with highlights that included a first place
finish in the Elms Invitational, hosting the Association
of Division III Independents Championship Race, and competing
in the NCAA cross country regional championship.
The Nighthawks were led this season by junior Herrel
Siller Jr. (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) who placed first
in six of his seven races this year. Siller was named the
Association of Division III Independents runner of the week
after the Elms Invitational, after his first place overall
finish with a time of 28:09 and was also chosen as the AD3I
student athlete of the month award for the month of October.
Siller finished in the top 15 at the ECAC Cross Country
Championships and ran his best time as a collegiate runner
with a time of 26:25 at the NCAA regional cross country
championship.
Also running their best times of the season at the NCAA
regional championship were Branden Mountain (Bangor,
ME/Bangor) and Stephen Desjardins (Cumberland, ME/Greely)
who finished with times of 28:24 and 30:36 respectively.
Both Mountain and Desjardins were essential part of the
men's cross country team's success in the 2007 season.
The Elms Invitational marked the first ever overall victory
in the school's history. The Nighthawks also placed second
overall at the Gordon Invitational Meet. For the first time
in the school's history, the Nighthawks also hosted the
Independent Championship Race at Franklin Park, in Jamaica
Plain.
Starting in the 2008-2009 season, the Nighthawks will become
a member of the brand new NCAA conference, the New England
Collegiate Conference (NECC).
