In 2000, George Hartling, Newbury College class
of '78, became the first alumni trustee in Newbury history.
In the last six years, three more alumni trustees have been
elected: Executive Chef David Blessing, '89 '93;
Linda G. Champion, Esq. '93; and Michael Demersky
'84. Alumni trustees bring to the Board a unique perspective
that is enriched by their professional expertise.
The Board of Trustees
of Newbury College is charged with the ultimate fiduciary
responsibility of the corporation as the governing body
for the College. This 21-member board consists of leaders
from a wide range of professions such as government, higher
education, business, law, development, hospitality, and
finance.
The full board meets quarterly and trustees normally serve
for a three-year term. Board committees provide another
opportunity for members to be involved in long-term strategies
for the College. Standing committees include Academic and
Enrollment Management, Nominating, Finance and Audit, Development,
Facilities, and Governance. Trustees serve on at least one
committee, usually representing their area of expertise.
