Stress Management
Stress is the bodys reaction to emotional, psychological
and physical demands. Stress occurs because we are constantly
adjusting to different circumstances. It is normal, necessary
and can be both positive and negative. Graduating from high
school and winning an award for baseball can be stressful.
So can failing a final exam or busting a headlight in a
fender-bender.
Too much stress can be harmful. Common symptoms include
restlessness, sleeplessness, overeating or loss of appetite,
headaches, dizziness and lack of energy. We must use coping
strategies to manage and relieve stress.
Some coping strategies include:
- Seeking the support of loved ones
- Physical exercise
- Rest
- Hobbies and interests
- Eating properly
- Using time and energy wisely
- Taking a break!
- Breathing and relaxation exercises

Students, in particular, experience stress. They constantly
have papers, projects, reading and class presentations to
do. Being prepared for school helps relieve stress. Students
who are organized and who monitor and budget their time
are often more productive. The following tips can help:
- Use a daily planner.
- Write "to do" lists.
- Keep your study space organized.
- Go to class and sit in the front.
- Do the reading ahead of time.
- Ask instructors for help or clarification.
- Study in advance for tests and quizzes.
- Begin research and papers early.
