FI201 Principles of Finance (3 credits)
This course introduces the fundamental techniques and concepts
related to the financial management of business firms, emphasizing
valuation and current issues. Topics include managerial
finance functions, financial ratios, the financial planning
process, the role of time value in finance, risk and return
fundamentals, bond valuation, common stock valuation, and
international finance. PR: AC102.
FI202 Money and Financial Institutions (3 credits)
This course introduces fundamental concepts related to
the organization of financial systems, focusing on banking
and the interaction between financial systems and the macroeconomy.
In particular, this course examines financial instruments
and derivatives (such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds),
financial institutions (primarily banks), and their relationship
with the Federal Reserve system. This course will also examine
the mechanisms and objectives of governmental monetary policies.

FI205 Investments (3 credits)
This course focuses on applications of financial theory
to investments. Topics include portfolio optimization and
asset pricing theories, as well as their applications to
problems in contemporary financial practice. The course
also explores the application of various financial instruments
in investment management and introduces the basic techniques
of portfolio performance evaluation. PR: FI201 & SS102.
FI305 Risk Management and Insurance (3 credits)
This course covers topics necessary for the financial manager
to appraise risk as it relates to the corporation. Emphasis
is on proposing an insurance plan for the corporation, appraising
risk, and relating risk to both the legal environment of
the firm and its financial markets. Students examine quantitative
and qualitative factors to develop an overall strategy for
risk management. PR: FI201.
FI325 Portfolio Management (3 credits)
This course covers the topics necessary for the financial manager to construct,
manage, and evaluate a portfolio of investments. Topics
covered include arbitrage pricing theory, valuation models,
disciplined stock selection, financial futures and options,
and bond portfolio management. Students will analyze both
domestic and foreign markets to generate an investment strategy
for the corporation. PR: FI205.
FI345 Forensic Accounting (3 credits)
This course covers fraud prevention, detection, and investigation.
Course coverage on financial statment fraud will include
recent laws and corporate governance changes including the
Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Topics covered in this course will be
useful for students pursuing professional careers in any
area of business, including, but not limited to, fraud-fighting.

FI405 International Business Finance (3 credits)
This course covers the topics necessary for a corporate
financial officer to manage in a global environment. The
course begins with an explanation of foreign exchange rates,
markets, trading, and securities. Later topics include foreign
investment and international risk, valuation of international
investments, capital budgeting, multinational taxation,
and financing globally. PR: FI201 & junior status.
FI425 Corporate Financial Policy (3 credits)
This course covers the topics necessary for the financial
manager to bridge the gap between financial theory and practice.
It examines in detail topics such as raising capital, corporate
restructuring, and corporate governance. This course will
also cover topics of current interest, including Internet
investment banking, initial public offerings, hybrid debt
issues, stock swap mergers, and leveraged buyouts. PR: FI325.
FI498 Finance Bachelor Thesis (3 credits)
As an alternative to completing an internship, during the
senior year students may elect to write a research paper
on an approved topic. The paper will focus on a current
finance issue and involve significant research. Students
must submit a written report to the faculty mentor, who
provides guidance throughout the project. PR: senior status
& departmental approval.
FI499 Finance Internship (3 credits)
This supervised internship allows the student an opportunity
to apply concepts learned in the classroom in a professional
management environment. Students must complete a minimum
of 150 hours with the placement, consult with the faculty
coordinator at designated times throughout the internship,
and complete a final written project. PR: senior status
& approved Internship Petition.
