Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design
The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design prepares students
for careers as interior designers in residential and commercial
design firms or as proprietors of their own interior design
firms. The curriculum offers a balance of general and professional
studies, with student projects based on theoretical and
practical applications. Students are taught to synthesize
information and analyze problems from different perspectives,
and to express their design ideas through drawing, drafting,
model making, and computer- aided design (CAD). Student
ideas are strengthened through study of historic styles,
materials, construction, lighting, and furniture design.
A senior capstone project, a professional internship, and
opportunities to participate in design competitions and
professional organizations help students to launch their
careers. Open course electives allow a minor in a complementary
discipline, such as business or social science. The Bachelor
of Science degree is accredited by the Council for Interior
Design Accreditation (formerly known as the Foundation for
Interior Design Education Research, FIDER).
Note that all full-time day students are required to
take FY100 First Year Seminar during their first semester.
