Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication provides students with the theoretical foundation and practical knowledge needed for employment in the communications/media field or for graduate study. Communications is a multi-faceted discipline that can lead to a variety of career paths. Therefore, the curriculum is designed to allow students to focus on their area of interest. By selecting from the choices offered, students can target TV/video, radio, writing, or a combination of these options, while developing a comprehensive perspective on the industry. Communication electives include specialties such as broadcast journalism, public relations, and scripting. In the senior seminar, students create a professional portfolio or demo tape to showcase their talents. The internship provides students with the opportunity to enhance their professional development through work experience in the communications industry.

Note that all full-time day students are required to take FY100 First Year Seminar during their first semester.

Concentration in Media Writing

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Media Writing provides students with the benefits of a multi-faceted communication/media discipline with an added foundation in writing for all the media. Students will get intensive training in writing news, features, essays, public relations releases, TV/radio/print advertising, dramatic scripts, and documentaries. This program is designed for students who like to write, want to develop their own style, and can see their futures in a specific area of the media. In the senior seminar, students will create a professional portfolio to showcase their best work for potential employers. The internship provides an opportunity to develop skills in a professional work situation.
