AR101 Drawing I (2 credits)
This introductory course develops the ability to see as
a visual language. Emphasis will be placed on drawing a
variety of subjects through direct observation. Using the
still life, the student will focus on line, shape, relative
value, shading and composition. A broad range of materials,
techniques and treatments of the drawn image will be explored.
This course will be taught as a vehicle for seeing, thinking
and communicating.
AR102 Drawing II (2 credits)
This course is a continuation of Drawing I.More complex
subject matter will be introduced while emphasis is placed
on both greater technical proficiency and creative drawing
concepts. The course will emphasize scale and introduce
different mediums and color. This course is designed to
encourage the student to take creative risks while developing
drawing skills. PR: AR101.
AR103 2-D Design (2 credits)
This is a studio course that will provide a general orientation
to the fundamentals of 2-D design through problem-solving
assignments. The fundamentals of design will be examined
by isolating the elements and principles of design. The
use and practice of visual language terminology will be
stressed in studio work in relation to expression, interpretation,
context, and information and visual communication.
AR104 3-D Design (2 credits)
This is a studio course that provides focus on the sculptural
application of the principles and elements of design. Students
develop an understanding of 3-D space by applying 3-D concepts
and expanding upon the principles introduced
in 2-D design. The use and practice of visual language,
tactile experience, and terminology will be stressed in
studio work in relation to expression, interpretation, context,
and information. PR: AR103.
AR109 Fashion Drawing I (3 credits)
This is a studio course that will focus on developing drawing
skills as they relate specifically to the fashion industry.
Illustration of the human figure, both male and female,
will be emphasized. The student also will be introduced
to ways of drawing stance, volume, face, hair, hands, and
feet. The drawing of garments and fashion-related products
will also be studied.
AR112 Color Theory (2 credits)
This is a studio course that will provide a general orientation
to the fundamentals of color through problem-solving assignments.
The course will explore color creation, function and application.
The course will investigate color theory models by Albers,
Munsell, Itten and others. The use and practice of visual
language terminology will be stressed in studio work in
relation to expression, interpretation, context and information.
AR113 Drafting I (2 credits)
This course introduces fundamental drawing for interior
architecture using drafting instruments and basic architectural
drawing techniques. Emphasis will be placed on line weight
and lettering. Students will draw scaled floor plans, elevations,
reflected ceiling plans and sections. Isometric and
oblique drawing techniques will be covered. Understanding
and layout of a set of working drawings will be stressed
AR201 Perspective Drawing (2 credits)
This course introduces perspective drawing as a visual
communication
tool for interior design. Students will develop the ability
to translate floor plans into three dimensional interiors.
The course emphasizes one- and two-point perspective, professional
presentation, and critical observation. PR: AR113.
AR202 Rendering and Presentation (2
credits)
This course is a continuation of Perspective Drawing. One-
and
two-point perspective drawings are brought to a more advanced
level, and greater emphasis is placed on developing design
skills. PR: AR201.
AR203 Drafting II (2 credits)
This course is a continuation of drafting for interior
architecture (Drafting I) with emphasis on developing drawings
for multi-space buildings. The course will focus on the
drafting and organizational skills necessary to complete
working drawings including details of interior architecture
and cabinet components. Students will complete a set of
working drawings for a given project generated from their
own site measurements. PR: AR113.
AR 209 Fashion Drawing II (3 credits)
This course builds upon the skills gained in previous coursework.
Focus will be placed on developing advanced rendering techniques,
including interpreting figure groupings, working with fabric,
and creating environments. The history of fashion illustration
will be explored to increase the student's awareness of
various styles of drawing used in the past. Emphasis will
be placed on personal style and portfolio development. PR:
AR109.
AR213 Computer Aided Design I (CAD I) (2 credits)
This course familiarizes the students with computer-aided
drafting and design systems and their use in the interior
design industry. Students will learn how CAD hardware and
software interact with the industry, use basic software
functions to produce drawings and edit existing drawings,
and use the printer plotter to make copies from drawings
created on the computer. PR: AR113.
AR315 Computer Aided Design II (CAD II) (2 credits)
The student will expand upon knowledge and skills obtained
in CAD I to create working drawings with advanced software
tools and techniques. The student will use the software
to produce three-dimensional drawings, which will then be
used to create axonometric and perspective illustration
with color. PR: AR213.
