Our philosophy of
academics is best exemplified by a sampling of learning experiences
at Newbury College:
- Business students apply their knowledge
of management principles to a case study and suggest strategies
to assist a failing company;
- Psychology students observe patient behavior
in a mental health facility;
- Communication students use computer technology
to edit a video documentary;
- Culinary arts students develop a menu
and prepare the dishes for a College reception;
- Students in hotel administration plan
a convention with a local trade association;
- Interior design majors work with a designer
to develop a space plan for an attorney's office;
- Criminal justice majors observe a district
court trial and employ the results in a mock trial setting;
- Computer science interns staff the help
desk at a software firm.
All academic programs at Newbury College
integrate theoretical knowledge of the discipline with experiential
activities. Internships, course projects, and formal and informal
interactions with industry professionals make for a dynamic
learning environment. Professors represent a wealth of industry
experience that brings the real world into the classroom.
The curriculum includes a balance of professional
and general education courses, ensuring that students gain
the analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
to be successful and productive in their chosen field. Newbury's
student-centered approach to learning is characterized by
small classes, an accessible and caring faculty, and the availability
of learning resources, including academic support and advising.
